Embedded Engineer (Albany, NY). Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Details day to day duties:

Embedded Development (30%):
-
Develop, test, and debug embedded firmware for biometric fingerprint systems and Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices focused on Veteran suicide prevention.

Design and implement communication protocols for data transmission between embedded devices and cloud platforms.

Optimize code for low power consumption and real-time performance.

Hardware Design (15%):
-
Design and develop electronic circuits, including printed circuit boards (PCBs), wiring diagrams, and schematics.

Select appropriate components and materials for embedded systems.
-
Conduct hardware testing and validation.
-
Manufacturing & Supply Chain Management (30%):
-
Oversee the end-to-end completion of the manufacturing process for the embedded subsystem, from initial stages to final product.

Manage sourcing of PCB manufacturing, working directly with Vara's existing suppliers and finding new manufacturers as needed.
-
Coordinate Vara's supply chain, managing contract manufacturers and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of final products.

Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers.

Engineering Analysis & Documentation (15%):

Perform calculations and develop mathematical models for systems performance.

Evaluate electrical systems, components, products, and applications by designing and conducting empirical tests and experiments.

Document projects and systems with datasheets, wiring diagrams, CAD drawings, and technical reports.

Automation & Process Improvement (10%):
-
Develop systems to automate tasks, aid production, and demonstrate Vara's technology.

Implement testing procedures to ensure quality and reliability.

Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Requirements:

Mandarin: critical for our China supply chain (~28% of role), enabling clear communication to ensure quality, timely delivery of electronic components and precise adherence to technical specifications.
