The shotgun by the bed is the one you reach for first.

RACT keeps it on the wall where you can get to it, and keeps everyone else off it. The barrel lock clamps the barrel and magazine tube, the trigger cover blocks the trigger, and the rail screws into the studs. It is a quick access shotgun safe that takes up no floor and no closet shelf.

Pistol grip or traditional stock. One rack.

Tactical shotguns with a pistol grip use the AR kit. Pump and semi-auto shotguns with a traditional stock use the notched hinge, which clears barrels and magazine tubes up to 3.3 in. RACT Biometric ships with both.

The notched hinge closes around the barrel and the magazine tube, and the traditional trigger cover encloses the trigger.

Problem solved

First I should tell you I live in bear country. Over the years they have been instances of them B&E into cabins and homes. Last November while watching TV a 320 pounder wandered across our deck just outside the Great Room less than 6' from where I was sitting. Through the window, and in a stern voice I admonish him to "Go away Bear", and thankfully he did. But my wife mentioned that she was feeling a little less than fully protected. So, I purchased a Benelli M3 LE Tactical 12 gauge. It is configured with an adjustable shoulder stock and a pistol grip. I contacted Vera Safety Support and spoke with John about a gun safe recommendation. He advised the AR style safe due to the pistol grip. What we didn't foresee was the diameter of the Benelli's pump slide was too large for the AR style's Biometric locking hinge mechanism. I contacted John to explain the problem and he recommended replacing the AR style's locking hinge with the Rifle/Shotgun style's larger locking hinge. It was shipped out that day and arrived 48 hours later at no charge to me. The swap out took less than 15 minutes and viola, I now have a safe & secure place to keep my Benelli. Buying anything on the internet can always be a crap shoot. It's nice to know that there are honest and honorable companies out there with great problem solvers like John in Safety Support. They're products are American made which I always appreciate and they're customer service impeccable and dependable....five stars. C. E. Campion Owner Upper Duchesne River Ranch Hanna, Utah

Excellent Product, Fabulous Customer Support Service!

On the advice of John in Support Services I purchased an AR Style safe for my Benelli M3 12 ga. He felt it was the better choice because of the Benelli's pistol grip. He was right except in one respect, the pump slide is too big in diameter to fit into the AR Style's Biometric hinge lock. When I reached out to John he quickly jumped into action and provided me a shotgun hinge piece from their Rife/Shotgun Style safe. I swapped the two hinge pieces and now problem solved! Big kudos to John who worked hard and diligently to solve my problem....excellent customer service and now my M3 is safe and secure in a great, well made product. C. E. RACT Keypad Mossberg 590

Opted for the keypad and set to 8 digits. Opens quickly. Very secure. Using foam pads provided, it doesn't budge when locked. While there's no need (nor would I recommend) I'd feel quite comfortable with a shell chambered. Trigger cover and grip adjustability can be very precise. For me, taking time to get all the adjustments just right before tightening down was key in maximizing RACT's capability. Even added thread lock where applicable. Of course, if someone were determined, a chainsaw would set it free.

It's a solid safe! I saw someone say that it doesn't fit the benelli m4 because of the mlok rails, but that's not true- it fits perfectly right where the instructions say to position the barrel lock (under the hand guard). They likely just didn't read the manual. It's a highly modifiable safe, and it covers my trigger guard completely by the time I was finished adjusting the pieces. I had to throw one piece out because of the pistol grip, but it had no bearing on the function of the safe.

Questions before you order.

Does the Mossberg 590 Shockwave fit?
Yes. Three owners keep a 590 Shockwave in a RACT. It is short, so the parts sit closer together than on a full-length shotgun; one owner moved the barrel lock down the rail to suit it. What Shockwave owners report.
My shotgun has a light or a side saddle.
Every part of RACT slides along the rail, so the barrel lock, trigger cover and stock support move to clear what is mounted. The owner's Remington 870 at the top of this page hangs with a loaded side saddle. If you are unsure about yours, email support@varasafety.com a photo of your setup and we will tell you before you order.
Pistol grip or traditional stock: which kit?
A shotgun with a pistol grip uses the AR / Tactical Shotgun kit. A pump or semi-auto with a traditional stock uses the Traditional Rifle & Shotgun kit, whose notched hinge clears barrels and magazine tubes up to 3.3 in across. RACT Biometric ships with both, so there is nothing to choose. RACT Keypad asks which, and a $50 conversion kit switches it later.
Where does it mount?
On a bedroom wall, inside a closet or behind a door: three structural lag screws, included, go through the 30 in rail into the studs, vertical or horizontal.
